unrefined beeswax pellets on a small glas dish

Description and appearance

Beeswax is a yellow (unrefined) or white (refined) wax that mostly comes in small pellets. It is a firm wax, but a bit tacky to the touch and slightly moldable in between the fingers.

INCI name: Cera Alba

Source: natural, non-vega, wax made by bees

Recommended usage percentage: 2-25%

Melting point: around 61-65 °C

Solubility: oil

Absorption and skin feel: On it’s own, beeswax will not absorb into the skin, because of it’s higher melting point. Added to a balm, or any other product it will slow down the absorption speed. Added in high percentages it can make the product feel sticky on the skin.

Storage: Dry and cool place

How to use it

Beeswax can be to thicken or harden our products. It is used in lip balms and lotion bars, but also as a thickener in emulsions or oil-based serums. Beeswax needs to be melted, for your formulation you will add beeswax in the heated oil phase.
