Description and appearance
Coconut oil is white solid oil or clear liquid oil, depending on the ambient temperature. Where I live, in the Netherlands, it is solid at room temperature. In case you live in a more (sub)tropical climate, coconut oil can be liquid at room temperature. Even in summer in the Netherlands coconut oil can be liquid, due to the melting point of around 25-28 °C.
Coconut oil is pressed from the meat of coconuts. It has excellent dispersing properties, penetrates the skin quickly, protects against dehydration and has a moisturising effect.

How to use it
Coconut oil can be used in body products as an emollient and it adds slip to your products. It is an excellent choice for example for lip products to add slip. To add coconut oil to your products you add it to the heated oil phase.
It is also commonly used in cold-pressed soap making. Coconut oil contributes to hardening your soap bars and gives a nice bubbly lather. Check ‘all about oils in soapmaking‘ for more information about coconut oil and other soapmaking oils.
