It is already the second half of January and it is definitely time to share my goals for 2022 with all of you!

In 2021 I started this blog, but unfortunately, my daytime job got crazy hectic leaving no time and energy for my blog. In the middle of this crazy hectic time, I also switched jobs within the University. The result was that I put my blog in maintenance mode for way too long. Now in 2022 I am ready and feel that there is time and energy to get on with my blog.

New start, new topic

I started this blog about simple living and creativity (sewing, food, simplifying our home). And even though I did not have time to really get my blog going, this year made me realise again how important creativity is for me. I realised that being creative in my own time is very important for my mental health and greatly reduces my stress levels. However, because of time and energy limitations last year I had to focus more on one creative activity instead of multiple. And the one thing that kept me going last year was DIY skincare formulation.

In 2020 I made my first skincare product, a facial cream. In 2021 I made lots of different formulations, lip balm, body butter, hand soap, body wash, several facial cleansers and my very first colour cosmetics (foundation, eyeliner and lipstick). And last weekend, in 2022, I made my first cold processed soap. I say this is progress, but there is way more room to learn, explore and experiment.

My DIY Skincare and Blog-Goals for 2022

  • Clean up and restart my blog Simple Moments of Happiness – Simple Homemade Skincare (Yeah!! managed that today!)
  • Share one blogpost per week
  • Update and expand my ingredients portfolio with every new ingredient I experiment with
  • Make cold processed soap (Yeah!!, managed to do that last weekend)
  • Make a shampoo bar
  • Make a conditoner bar

As you can see, I really want to try to make more solids this year, starting with cold processed soap. I started on this goal last weekend. And as I am writing the blog post, my first two cold processed soaps are now curing (it’s not the best picture, I was too much involved in the making process than thinking about taking good pictures, haha).

9 white square soaps
my first ever cold processed soaps

Still have to wait at least 4 weeks to see and try the final result. Hopefully, it is worth the wait ;-). My plan is to make make a cold processed soap every two weeks. First trying several base recipes without fragrance and colour. I just want to get used to the process of making cold processed soap and I want to test the different soap bases on the soap characteristics like foam, creaminess, conditioning, cleansing and hardness of the soap bar. I will share my findings on this blog.

And some personal goals for 2022

And because my blog is not the only thing in my life, underneath you find a few more personal goals for 2022.

  • Dance more Argentine Tango.
Jason and I met because of Tango. I asked me to dance one time at a wonderful tango salon, and basically never left after that. I love dancing tango with him, and honestly because of the pandemic, having a toddler, both having hectic jobs, we definitely could be dancing. Even if it is just an evening tango just before bedtime.
  • Read a book per month
I actually read a lot, but mostly in bed just before I go to sleep. I would like to make more time during the evening or weekend to realy sit down and enjoy a good book and a nice cup of tea, or a nice glass of wine 😉
  • Take swimming classes with my 2,5 years old son
I wanted to take up todler swimming classes way earlier, but with lockdown after lockdown it was hard to find a place and start. Just last week the last lockdown was lifted and the classes are starting up again. So next sunday is the plan!
